The Centre for Armed Violence Reduction (CAVR) has begun a UN-funded partnership with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to install both regional and national registers for weapon and ammunition management across West Africa. CAVR’s ArmsTracker software will allow the ECOWAS Commission and its 15 Member States to uphold their obligations under the 2006 ECOWAS Convention on Small Arms and Light Weapons, as well as to support compliance with the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).

The broader aim of this project is to link all ECOWAS Member States in the same manner, thereby streamlining and standardising weapon and ammunition management data provided by governments to the ECOWAS regional register of arms transfer exemptions under the Convention. CAVR looks forward to progressing its partnership with ECOWAS and its 15 Member States.
